A New Searing Threat

Prologue

For a millennia there was peace between the 5 races of Tyria. Now it appears the peace is about to be broken. A rogue faction has rising in the Charr city Black Citadel determined to force the world to come under ONE leading government/ruler… The new Imperator of the Charr race. They have sworn to crush any that defy them. For centuries a small group of dissenters slowly grew into a hidden army and now they were ready to take what they believed was their rightful place in Tyria, as rulers… or die trying.

It was a dark and and silent forum. When suddenly ....

Jun 15 [howl] Tim tag
A slight whisper was heard as the light breeze caressed the Borlis ears.. making them stop and look around... "What was that?.."

Jun 17 Avenger of the Pass
...the whirr of machinery, the shuffling of papers, coming from inside the tunnels beneath their feet. "I... do not know!" Over the hill, a set of eyes, bearing a magical gleaming dagger, loomed over the party traversing the pass...

...seeing he could hear no thoughts from the even bigger group of shadows that were approaching. They spoke incoherently, seemingly oblivious to the reality around them, as if the things with no thoughts were as anomalies from the Fractals, or the cursed souls of Ascalon. "RUN, THEY'RE ALREADY HERE!" Unearthly power resonated through his blade, animating the bones from battles past in a deathly dance around it.

On the other side of the world a flash of light was seen slicing through The Grove, awakening the Mother Tree. Sending coded signals through the vast network of roots encompassing the Grove the Pale Tree took notice and called upon the little ones at his feet to awaken. The Sylvari were being summoned. Something grave was stirring in the outworld, beyond the protective barrier of The Grove. Slowly they rose from the ground and took their humanoid form. "It is time." came the voice in all of their minds, "The world needs us. For what I can't say... yet. It's time to prepare..."

Back in the former Deldrimor north.

The frozen bodies rising up around the dagger, now glowing fiercely, tore desperately into the horde as, behind them, the necromancer was screaming his last. The Mist Warriors were running, breathlessly, from the horde that was chasing them. Portals from the Mists could, in theory, open up in this pass the Mist Warriors called home, being that the barriers between the Mists and Tyria were weak here. Any day, the main invasion into Tyria proper could happen; a few brave souls kept the war with these mistborn monstrosities from bringing the same devastation to all of Tyria. But portals, here? In Tyria? "By Balthazar, it's beginning to spill over into our world..."

They were pursued through the subterranean tunnels of Bore Lynch, where a large statue, of Dwarven craftsmanship, loomed sinisterly over the public square known as the Forum, known to residents as far away as the Frost Gate for the publication of various manifestoes and missives. "Swing around and take aim for the portal. If they've come to Tyria, that means we've lost in the Mists."

Omphalos Chamber / The Grove

Calling out to her children the Avatar of the Tree stepped out of her alcove beneath the great Mother Tree.

"My Children. A millennia of peace is coming to an end. News comes that the Charr have once again broken the treaty and desire to rule the Kingdoms of Tyria" "Ventari's tablet speaks of peace within the soul. That peace is about to be tested. His 2nd writing tells us not to fear difficulty. I can tell you this, things will become difficult my children and we must be strong. We must be as one. We must join with the Humans, the Asurans, and the Norn and help the Charr understand that peace was and is the only way. But the Charr are a warring race.. all they will understand now is power... and power they shall face!"

"Come my children.. it is time to prepare..."

Rata Sum

Deep within the underground chamber Ruqi's eyes widened as the monitors glowed with the flash of light that shot across the land. The code descrambler began whirring and messages appeared on the screen. "It has begun" "Please call your progeny's and best scientists" "A new war is upon us!"

Ruqi downloaded the message to the device on her neck and beamed immediately to the head council in Metrica Province. "Progeny... what is the matter?"

Handing the message over Ruqi watched as his eyes narrowed and ears straightened. "Call the golemancers! We will need their expertise now. We must build an army of supreme golems. The threat is real, the threat is fierce... but... we are smarter than all races combined. We will punish them for their stupidity".

"He's so full of himself", Ruqi thought... "but he IS smart"...

as Rata Sum was put on full alert Ruqi descended to her secret chambers to monitor some more...

Lore of the Sylvari

The sylvari are an enigma. Humanoid in form, plantlike in nature, they are recent arrivals in Tyria who have roamed the world for only 25 years. No one knows why they have suddenly appeared in Tyria, least of all the sylvari themselves, and they seek to discover their purpose in the world.

The sylvari may take a human shape, but a closer look will reveal that their flesh is made of vines and leaves, with foliage and petals in place of hair, and golden sap flowing through their veins.

They are all born of a single parent—the mighty Pale Tree that dominates the Tarnished Coast. The sylvari are bound together by the Dream, a collective state that nurtures and teaches them before they are awakened fully grown, with some knowledge of the world around them. Through the Dream, most sylvari are imbued with an inherent sense of nobility, curiosity, and a need to explore. As each sylvari travels and learns more of the world, that knowledge comes back to the Pale Tree, which shares it with a new generation through the Dream.

The Pale Tree towers over the Tarnished Coast, her looming trunk taller than many mountains. Under the shelter of her lush foliage, the sylvari have made their homes in the Grove, a verdant, multi-level city composed entirely of plants. Some of the sylvari have lived their entire lives beneath the tree, but most choose to wander, to adventure, and to let their memories of the Dream take them where it may.

A new adventure awaits them now. Even the Pale Tree is unsure what is coming. All she knows right now is... it's coming!

Lore of the Asuran

The asura value intelligence and intellectual superiority over all other attributes. Individual asura will dedicate an entire lifespan to building a portfolio of successful projects or becoming the foremost expert of some tiny aspect of the arcane. They constantly seek to prove their own intellectual superiority, and by extension the superiority of the asura race. This typically results in asura being arrogant to the point of rudeness towards others, especially towards non-asura races. The asura have quickly established their intellectual and magical superiority over the other races and view them as useful primarily for heavy lifting, taking risks, and asking stupid questions.

Asura magical technology is second to none. Their experiments with magic are evident through the impressive floating structures found around and within their cities. Many asura study the difficult art of golemancy, and golems are often used for defense and general work. The golems' complete absence of intelligence and huge size complements the asura perfectly. The most important contribution of the asura to Tyrian society is the asura gate network which links many of the major cities of Tyria. To maintain this, they have retained a neutral attitude to all races.

As the new threat emerges they will pull their intellectual forces together to help save the inferior beings of Tyria from certain death that can come from using only power and not superior intellect to outsmart the invaders from the mists.

In Borlis Pass a hero stands slowly in a snow covered land as the cold wind blows. He hears the whispers of souls from the past. They warn him a horde is coming and he must find a way to close the portals. They hint of an object from a far off land and then the whispering is gone. Only the wind and snow remand. Our hero....
